Performing for ourselves; getting closer!
We had ten students show today. We did some table-work at the very start of the rehearsal and by the time we had finished, everyone else had arrived. It was decided we will be performing on Friday, November 3rd, and each one of us is committing to selling at least two tickets to the event at $5 a piece. If each one of us is successful, we'll have at least 20 people attend.
Margarita's birthday is also next week so we're working on having DTC facilitate games with Ms. Londa so the children attending will have a good time. Londa came by and presented the information. I'm supposed to be giving her a list of students that can commit to arriving and helping her out with the games.
Lastly, I spoke of the importance of our group continuing to work with our USF contact so more doors will continue to open for us and mentioned the Wireless Microphones that were acquired, given this sort of participation. My hope is that more of our members will take this a little more seriously so we have a better turnout for the next time.
I was trying to get Fernando and Luke to help me remember a game we had played the other day, but Luke thought it was another game entirely and we tried going with that. Unfortunately, I don't how much was actually accomplished but at least we gave it a good go and had a good time doing it.
Afterwards, we split up into our three individual groups and began rehearsing and fine tuning our individual story performances. One of our groups had two members missing
so this made their progress somewhat difficult, but they had performed the week before, so I wasn't entirely worried about them. I checked in and made sure Andres and Marques at least went over the story-line and beats, and we also discussed costumes, make-up, props, and some sound design.
Meanwhile, our other groups received some great rehearsal time and were able to present their pieces to the group at the end of the hour. We definitely have some tweaking to do, but we're in a good place and I'm excited to begin helping direct each of the individual pieces at the start of rehearsal next week. We have about three more rehearsals and we will be ready to go for the Open Mic performance by the first week of November.
(The pictures included in this article were not from tonight's rehearsal. They were taken during one of our "Boal Facilitation Training Sessions" during the summer. I just want to make sure to include them in the Blog since this work was referenced earlier; and because I forgot to take pics of this weekend's session which included Isabel, Sierra, Kayla, Tara, Maria, Eddie, and Dr. Agosto.)
In attendance:
Angel, María, Luke, Isabel, Fernando, Osvaldo, Andres, Abel, Sarah, Marques, and Emma
