"DTC Show," here we come!
After what has seemed like too long of a hiatus, I am happy to say DTC is back and moving forward, harder than ever!
Why the hiatus? I had the good fortune of being involved with Stageworks Theatre's first ever, bilingual production of "In the Time of the Butterflies." Given we were performing shows in both English and Spanish, the rehearsal schedule was a little more intensive and I had to miss out during one of our normal DTC sessions.
Not to say we weren't productive in the meanwhile: DTC successfully submitted yet another original "short play" to the "2018 Tampa Bay Theatre Festival." Even though we must have gone through three different ideas before landing on the final script, I was very pleased at how everything came together in the end. From the group getting on their feet and blocking ideas our very own María Mendez had for the piece, to her doing all of the writing and DTC coming in to read aloud her words a couple of weeks before needing to submit. My hope is this group will reap t
he benefits of having made this deadline and getting the opportunity to put this show up on it's feet for the Festival in September. However, if not then ... I am happy to say DTC has decided to produce and create their very own first show in our new Teatro Center!
More details to come later, but we have decided to put up a weekend of shows in August, from the 10th to the 12th, to finally raise funds for the group and the Farmworker's Self-Help Organization. We will be resurrecting 4 of our original shows from the past, as well as introducing the new piece that was submitted to the Festival, before possibly getting the chance to perform it in the competition itself. It will be the first time this group takes on this sort of project and I couldn't be happier about our taking this on at this time in our group's history!
