Pocos, pero locos!
Well, we didn't have the turn-out I was looking for, but I feel we were still able to get some solid work in regardless. I surprised myself by going in to the scoring process with the group, even though at times it may have been falling on deaf ears. (Not sure what the deal was, but everyone was somewhat out of sorts.) However, I was happy to see Eddie return and speak to us a little about his time out in Ohio!
It was Sarah and I for the first half an hour and we were able to do some great scoring work for her character. I asked her if she had any questions or concerns regarding her role and she kept claiming what questions could she have if she only had one line. We spent the next 15 minutes discussing
how "scoring her script" would help with her character and give her things to do while on stage.
(Then she helped me time a classical monologue that I've been working on for an audition coming up next Saturday! When I asked her whether or not she understood what it was about, I was dismayed to realize she had not; not sure if it was because my work wasn't clear or if she just wasn't paying attention.)
María, Angel, and Eddie showed up and we caught up with Eddie and spoke some preliminary business matters before going into the script. (Perhaps it was the humidity in the space that made everyone so off task? I had arrived an hour earlier to let the AC run for a while, and it seemed pretty cool while we were working.) Given we didn't have everyone there, we discussed how else we might be able to cast the show in case we had to organize the roles differently and I feel we came up with a pretty good solution. After Angel and Sarah had heard enough from me, we got on our feet, and even attempted to use improv to flesh out the characters. We ended on a good note and I'm excited for the break, so we can come back fresh and revisit what we have been working on.
