Scored and blocked the end of the script!
- had been expecting a younger group to show up
- had a good convo about props
- confirmed seeing the show on Saturday
- did a little switching around
- scored and blocked to the end
I am happy to say Angel and I were invited to be a part of a youth group meeting earlier this morning and we had an opportunity to invite them to our rehearsal this evening. I had created an agenda and was willing to work in some games to get their feet wet, but no one showed so we conducted business as usual. We agreed to meet with them the following Wednesday morning and Angel and I will be able to conduct those games at that time. Margarita's hope is that we will be able to continue to meet with them on a regular basis; my hope is they will constitute the new generation of DTC now that our group is getting older and doing different things. (I think our youngest members are Juniors in high school this year!)
Some of the furniture was moved around in the center, which allowed us better access to the chalk board and after snapping this picture, I realized we hadn't utilized in quite a while. (Not to say we haven't been working or been busy!) There is a back side to it but given the board is a little old, the switch-around mechanism wasn't in the best condition and I didn't have the patience to fix it before rehearsal began. Which means every time we want to use, I need to snap a pic before erasing the contents, instead of flipping it over or turning it over, which is harder to do.
While we waited for the rest to show up, we had a great conversation about props and a show we were going to attend on Saturday. It looks like Eddie has a BB gun he'll be able to borrow us for the performance and we'll be checking it out this week to see if it will be conducive for what we're looking for. We also confirmed going to the show at American Stage this weekend; they have this great opportunity to see live theatre for free, as long as you're under the age of 20. (Angel just turned 20, so he would have to pay regular price, but it's just him we'd have to worry about.)
One of our actors had to babysit so we had to do a little switching around, but it worked out fine. I even believe we had Eddie recording some of the rehearsal to help out with blocking and Marques was taking down the notes to be able to pass on to this actor when they return. Meanwhile, María and I were directing.
I was pretty happy with the progress once we got rolling. I believe I was able to teach how we needed to break up the script into appropriate sections so the characters could change up their specific intentions within the scene, and so there would be more levels. I wondered how María was reacting to this, given this was here material that we were dissecting and working on.
We made it to the end of the script, and now we just have to get the right actors doing the right roles, get the scripts out of their hands and start working this thing from start to finish, to see how we can polish and get it ready for the Festival. I don't know what it is, but I'm very optimistic for our performance this year!
