Adapting and Overcoming with DTC!
- deadline to make
- adapting with use of technology
- have the work, just need to put it down
- showing them how to actually create the script on-line
It's been about four weeks that I feel we have been preparing to hunker down in the midst of the "Corona Virus Pandemic," and I'm proud to say that DTC has been weathering the storm and continues to meet on a regular basis! We met physically one last time at the Mariposas' lair the first week of March, and we were able complete 75% of the piece we have been working on.
We didn't meet the week after, which would have been when the students would have originally been off for Spring Break. But I reached out to them (through their phones) the week after to see if they would be interested in completing this script before the deadline was upon us. It seemed they were up for the challenge, especially as it was around the time we were starting to hear of all the changes that were being rolled out, such as "virtual schooling, "social distancing," and "staying at home."
This helped my cause in that it was providing another way for DTC to socialize with their peers safely. But also, the schools were borrowing tech resources to these students. So now, everybody had access to a laptop and the internet! It meant I didn't have to drive to Dade City for our rehearsal, they could still see everyone and socialize through the meeting, and they would be able to see first-hand, how it was that I transcribed their dialogue into a viable script that would soon be submitted to the festival.
Unfortunately, I have not taken a screen shot of our working together during these meeting, but I promise to do so for next week. I am confident we will be able to complete our mission before the deadline. And I am happy to say we have at least 5 to 6 of our actors present for the sessions. The script should be completed by next week and then it will just be our re-reading it and making edits individually.
I cannot wait until we have finally completed it and I get to share my screen to show how we actually go about submitting it to through the festival website. Then we wait to see if we get selected to present for this year's festival!
